In accordance with our time the aim of the Virtual Guide System (VGS) is that the museum-goers using their mobile phones and tablets should be enabled to gain a life-long lasting experience and they should be enabled to use the acquired information, descriptions after leaving the museum as well.

Tasks of the system:

After the visitors enter the museum they should be offered the opportunity to download the program. Here at arrival, in case the visitor possesses a mobile device operated by an Android operation system and the Wi-Fi is switched on the program should offer the possibility of downloading automatically.

The position of a mobile device operated by an Android operation system has to be determined inside a building. The task should be to develop the existing system or to use a newly built Wi-Fi system. With the proper AP density the accuracy of the RFID may be reached as well, although from time to time the system may need teaching.

In this way the position of the visitor should be determined in the exhibition rooms with the help of wireless routers; then according to these the visitors should receive the information with attached photographs and videos about the nearest exhibit on their mobile devices with the help of the program. In case of forward-coming the program should offer the visitor the opportunity to save the information

In the course of the application the system should be developed at 3 fix venues and within the scope of a travelling exhibition. To this at each venue 200-500 m2 exhibition place should be built, to which at each venue 40 AP-s and 5 master AP-s can be used. To teach the program one notebook and to fulfil the central tasks one server computer can be purchased.

Operation principle

The operation of the system is basically made up of two phases: teaching and operating.

During the teaching phase radio-frequency measurements must be carried out with a mobile device in the room equipped with AP-s, mainly in the critical positions around the objects of art. The signal strengths measured in different positions will be averaged by the program, and a database will be prepared. The database contains the position inside the room and the different averaged value of the signal strengths measured there. The database will be stored on the server computer, and the multimedia content of each exhibited object will be attached here as well.

During the operation phase the signal strength measured by the mobile device will be sent to the server computer through the master AP. The server computer uses this signal-strength combination as searching key in the database built-up in the learning phase. With the help of the key it can be determined where the mobile device sending the data-drawing is located in the room.

After determining the position the multimedia content can be easily derived from the database, and through the master AP it can be easily returned to the mobile device.

During the realisation a homepage should be developed which introduces the application and its content elements. Its further task will be to give the opportunity to upload and modify the content elements of the VGS independent of the place. This is the reason, why a maximum permeability must be developed and ensured between the program that runs on the android operation system of VGS and the homepage.
